Hi all.
I just got home from a local music store, while I was there, I started talking to the salesman about the new DTX-950 kit, he said that he had one in boxes in the back, I kept asking him if he's sure it a 950 and not a Xtreme III kit. He kept insisting it was a 950, when he mentioned the price of $6000.00 then I agreed it was a 950. LOL
So anyways, I was there to get a new drum throne since the Tama drum throne I bought a couple years ago is a total joke, bad design, a bolt broke on it sending me on my back (luckily, it's when my back faced a wall, so the wall helped break my fall) I've since replaced the one bolt but I see the other bolt is bent, so with my new drum layout, if a bolt breaks again, I'll be injured this time for sure. Needless to say, I've lost faith in Tama and this throne, I'm scared of using it now, and my small cheap Gibraltar throne has very little padding, so when sitting on it for a long time programming modules and such, it gets to literarily be a pain in the butt! LOL :D
I tried a few thrones while at the store, none of them had backrests, then Debbie spotted one partialy hidden and it had a backrest, we took it out and I sat on it for a bit, trying it out, making sure it was comfy and it was. So I bought a new higher end Gibraltar drum throne.
Also in the last couple of days, I've been busy building a shelf to house my spare 19 inch monitor and setting up Debbie's old computer so I can try this Steve Slate Drums EX thing.
I just took some pictures here are the descriptions......

new001 - My new Gibraltar drum throne
new002 - Throne again, different angle
new003 - Debbie's old computer, keyboard and mouse layout and Behringer mixer
new004 - Shelf unit and 19 inch monitor for the computer.

The computer setup and shelf are temporary, they are there so I can try out the Steven Slate Drums EX software (bought it at a seriously reduced price) and if I really like external drum sounds via midi (if I can even figure it out) then I'll buy a appropriate laptop to do the job, if not, I'll just give up on the idea of external sounds and still get that monster of a desktop and shelf out of there! LOL :)
Take care

Jack, hope your butt enjoys it's new resting place. There's nothing worse than a sore arse ..... This reminds me of my youth, I use to find sex, a right pain in the arse..... till I found out I was doing it wrong :)

HAHAHA Bobby.
Well, so far the new throne is pretty good, just finished messing with the module and computer while mostly sitting down and my butt is feeling fine and with no worries of falling flat on my back like I did with that pathetic Tama throne.
Take care

Nice Jack! Enjoy :) Does this mean you're ruling out what you were thinking a few weeks ago?

Hi Ron.
Yeah, for now, I want to see if I can get this software based drum sounds working right, I love the sounds so far.
So for the next little while, I'll be hanging in there! LOL :)
Take care

Jack, I love the new throne, I need a new one but I need a new one that fits a Fat Man. I am sure you will like the sounds, I am sure it will bring make you think you are playing acoustics again. I want to get the Drum Masters pack with the Peart kit when it comes out but we will have to see about that fits. The Laptop idea is a solid one especially at the prices they are going for now. Let us know about the throne in a few weeks after you brak it in and get your ass prints on it. That will be the test of a good throne. Talk to you soon, T

Is that an oversize moto or regular throne?...how is the stability with the back on?...I added a back from a junkyard to my OS moto, but it's not very stable...keeps falling over

Hi Tom.
So far I love the throne, I must have sat on it for 3 to 4 hours last night between fiddling with the module/computer trying to get the SSD EX thing working better and actually playing to test it. Your right though, the acoustic sounds are coming through loud and clear and it just gives the kit a different feel even though the kit's hardware or layout hasn't changed. Man oh man, I guess that's the drum companies messing with our heads? LOL :D
Take care

great pix Jack and I know what you mean about the throne. It wasn't that I had a bad one, I had the DW top o the line but no back! BTW the tractor seat on the DW is HUGE, T.A. I sold mine so I could get one with a back.

I have the roc n soc and having a back is the shizzle ( for this old guy!)

Hi Michael.
When I bought the throne last night, it was at the store's closing time and I never even thought of asking if they had any of these in boxes since I took the floor model (no assembly required) and besides I was so happy to find a throne I liked to replace that suicidal Tama throne. I looked under the throne but no sticker with model number.
I just took a few pictures of the throne showing the following.......

gthrone001 - Shows the angle of the backrest and the thick bracket holding it together, the cushion part can be moved up or down by about 3 to 4 inches, I have it at max height in the picture.

gthrone002 - Shows the back part of the backrest, looks pretty sturdy and yes, it is comfy when sitting or playing.

gthrone003 - I laid the throne down on the floor to show how the back brace connects to the underside of the throne.

gthrone004 - a top view of the throne, to maybe give an idea as to it's size and dimensions. The seat cushion is 16 inches wide by 14 inches (back to crotch), the backrest is 7 inches high by 13 inches wide with a slight curve so it hugs your back.
All in all, so far, I am enjoying the feel of this throne.
Take care

Hi Charly.
Agreed, the backrest is a great thing to have, especially with eDrums since a lot of time, I spend more time messing with the module than I do playing, so the backrest is great for the times you just sit there thinking or listening to something to see if it's just right.
It's also more comfy for playing. Last night when I was messing with the Steven Slate Drums EX software, I sat on that thing for anywhere between 3 to 4 hours, got up feeling fine, if that would have been my el'cheapo Gibraltar throne with not much padding, I would have been in pain, if that would have been my Tama throne, possibly, I'd now be dead! LOL :D
Take care

My butt rests securlely on a Sound Percussion (Guitar Center house brand) saddle throne with extra cushion... love it! Very similar style to the Gibralter, whom I suspect is actually private labeling it for GC.

If I can get a Tama back rest on it though I'd be in heaven. I always loved the "twinkie" shaped backrest on their thrones and the adjustability of the backrest, but not the actual seat itself.
