hey guys i just recently bought the dtxtreme 3 special a few months ago. i have a headset for them but i'm not sure what the best brand of speakers to buy for them are. i would also like to take the prices in account. the guy at the store recommended rolands. do i have to buy rolands or will any brand work?

For drum monitors / amps / speakers, Simmons makes a comparable product for cheaper. I assume you are looking at the Roland PM-30?

Which Simmons model do you prefer? I was thinking about getting a speaker... or building one.

Although, now that I think of it, building one entails "another drum project", and i think my wife needs a break from "eDrum Guinness". LOL

I've got a DTX3 too and a Simmons DA-50 ($200) I wish I had put up another $100 for their next model up DA-100(?) as the sound from my amp is just so-so compared to the sound from my $100. headset. Maybe the sound can't be improved but I'll bet it can with better equipment. I wish I had gone that route to begin with. But hey, I'm new to all of this. Skyking

Well I am really in left field...

The lead guitar player was going to give me his Yamaha PA's and stands - but hasn't yet...so I play through my Tascam 2488 and Event monitors.

It cranks pretty good - more than I will ever need for the space I jam in - and I can mix everything well...

Unconventional, but works for me. ;)

But that won't have any low end, will it?

I've heard good things about the Alesis Transactive. But haven't heard it personally.

Sort of...but you would be surprised. Those things have some pretty good depth to them!

It'll do for now. ;)

The three choices that come to mind are:

Roland PM-30 ($630 w/coupon RMC) - nice but overpriced...I own one
Yamaha MS100DR ($566 w/coupon RMC) - Also nice....still overpriced but a little more reasonable than PM-30 and satellites are better IMO
Simmons DA-100 ($299) - nice and best price of the of three..disadvantage...no satellites..:(

Any of these three will work....if price is a concern get the simmons...if not I'd get the yamaha...it's a little cheaper and again I think the satellite speakers are a little better...:)
