Hi everyone,
I am also a newbie to this forum. I see a bunch of people from vdrums forum and I'd like to see about getting more information that may not have been posted in the other forum. I also would like to see more e kits.
I have a DIY PDP chopped kit. Roland TD-9 and TD-4 that I may be looking to upgrade. (GAS attackin me for a 20). Have alot of fun reading the other forum that I'm sure I will enjoy this one as well.

Welcome to the forum Blaz3! So if you're selling the TD-9 & -4, what's your intended upgrade? Just curious.

Somebody get DS some glass cleaner for that storm trooper visor - hahaha.
Welcome to the forum blaz3damage. The TD-20 is an amazing module, but it needs a healthy dose of Vex kits to get it there. You apparently lean towards Roland modules, but you might want to test run the Yamaha DTX III series. It's got some great features too and it's less expensive. I've owned both and would have no issues using either one for my kit. WW

Ooooooooooooooh....I got it now. GAS attackin me for a 20 means for a TD-20. Gotcha!

Ahh the DTX III I was looking at because of it appealing price point compared to the TD-20. My problem is my drums are DIY'ed to roland style drum brains. Dual zone instead of triple zone, cone and crossbar method. Also I was really looking into the positional sensing of the TD-20 and that seems to not be present on the DTX 3. But I am always looking for persuasion, if anyone can tell me how the DTX with diy drums works then I may be more inclined to go with the DTX 3.

as I was advising one of the other guys here, the best one to ask is Tom (TAKnipe) because he uses a DTX3 with his DIY mesh-head pads. There are definitely differences between the two modules. Most of the guys who like the DTX3 have indicated that they like the sounds a lot better than those of the TD20. Many have also said that though it doesn't have positional sensing, it uses layering which the TD20 does not and that gives it more realistic sounds (I don't know that myself, just quoting what others have said). One of the downsides is that apparently the learning curve on the DTX3 is pretty steep. You have to really be dedicated to learning it. However, there are a few users here, as well as over at DTXperience, that have done the learning for you and can give lots of pointers. One other thing to consider is that if you are using a Roland hhat controller, then that's meant for Roland modules. The don't play nicely with Yamaha's...and vice versa.
Even if you had a place to try it out, I'm not sure if you'd really get an idea of how much you would like or dislike the DTX3 because it requires a lot of tweaking. I'd recommend just searching the threads here and in other forums to see what people have to say about it.
