I'm sure you guys have by now noticed that the Alesis DM5Pro kit isn't made by Alesis...There are about 3-5 other companies using the same kit from Hart to Borgi...
Roland hit the manufacturer with a Cease and Decist order this week!! If they stop producing...so much for the Alesis DM5Pro kit I guess!!

That's how Roland can sell overly expensive kits, kill off any competition so they have a monopoly then they can demand any price they want.
Kind of reminds me of when Apple computers was suing everybody and their dog for having a GUI (Graphical User Interface). Eventually, it'll come back to bite them in the ass. From what I hear, many long time Roland customers are starting to look at Yamaha as a Roland alternative. Way to go Roland, you have a way of shooting yourself in the foot, in this case, your customer's foot!
I'm sure Yamaha will welcome all ex Roland users with open arms, a new DTXtreme III kit and some customer support. Customer support..... WHOA... what a concept! :o
Take care

Hi Guys, I think that this is my first post on this forum, so a big hello! Some of you may know me from other forums. Interesting this stuff about Roland isn't it? You spend almost 2000 dollars on a TD20 module to find that it doesn't come with a sampler and that you have to spend hundreds more on a sampler to then discover that it only takes a flash card of max 512 MG storage! Then their modules are only compatible with certain other components / triggers, and they don't generally offer other options to make their products compatible with anything else..and the list goes on. I'm a user of both Yamaha and Roland and I can say that I can't fault Roland's playability and overall quality, but they ARE pricey. Yamaha, on the other hand offer superior quality verses features AND value for money. I'm sure if they (Yamaha) play their cards right, they will win over many new customers.

I am starting to hate Roland and their toties and lackeys. I think after the xtreme3 release the water will start to get heavier and heavier to carry. If the TDW2 comes out and doesnt make coffee and sample and or layer or alternate is the 20 a bust?? I would have to say so.
If it wasnt for Jerry and Chris and Evil1rx and a short list of other folks I wouldnt even go there anylonger. You keep hoping things will change and all your left with is hope. if there is a hell I know a few people (term used loosely) with their ticket stamped allready. ;D

-Seriously thanks bro. I'm with you on the TDW2. What is it really gonna add to the module... probaly nothing. I can't conceive of how it would allow for sampling...so... time to start on the TD30 or some other $5,000 drum module...?

I find this hard to believe, the Alesis kit uses real heads not mesh, is Roland asserting they invented electronic drums?

Actually, Roland owns everything! Mwah, ha, ha!
The Roland patents are quite broad. I don't know how many would stand up in court, but they do own them. And under US law they have to defend them or lose them. And whether you love them or hate them, they did get there first with a lot of innovations. And since we are all die-hard capitalists here, we have to respect the process.
What keeps Yamaha in the business is that they innovate in their own way. The new XTreme is quite impressive and should give the Roland guys some competition.
But is the new TDW-2 is just more of the same, I won't buy it. I wanna' add fart noises and if Roland won't give it to me, Yamaha will.

CaTaPulT hands Overlord a can of Libby's deep brown beans.
See, I saved you a ton of money, now you don't need Yamaha or Roland to make fart noises! LOL ;D
Take care

We are happy to see you also. You fit right in here. Its a rather ecclectic bunch but I think we enjoy it that way. Different perspectives are just around each dark and twisted corner. But hey thats the adventure here.
I really mean this, it is good to see you. I was reading your posts from way back, I can prove it lol. :)

They are claiming that the manufacturer is using some of their sounds from their modules in their module production....I haven't heard anything else about it, so it must have dropped...
The odd thing is that I have one of the modules here and Pintech sent me the DTXpress III and IV there are A LOT of simularities between the Madelli and the Yamaha! Settings are identical when you use the utility area, and even the fact that both of them have a "utility" area. I can't help but wonder how may products are coming from the same factory over there. I mean you have to look at Alesis and Ion....same product, different name.

Hey Brian, Madelli? Is this a manufacturer that produces these items? Do you know what products are being produced there? Interesting twist to the topic. I need to know more of the backstory. Thanks, T

I don't know if I am spelling the name correctly, that's how it is pronounced. They manufacture several different kits to some degree:
Pintech's aluminum racks
Pintech 8" kick drum (but we change it out with the mesh head and different piezo)
Pintech EZ Module
Alesis DM5Pro Kit
Borgi Drums
Hart Virtouso (they change the heads to mesh and don't use the module)
Yoki
OSP
Trapps (module)
I haven't heard anything since the original post on the C&D order, so it may have been dropped...who knows.
