I was able to play with one for a demo for a couple days and cant believe I didnt try this config, but wanted to see if anyone else had.
Using the Trigger I/O as a replacement for a TMC 6?
I theory this should work right? and if I change my MIDI notes i should be able to use it with EZ drummer right?

Yup, I use the BFD 1.5 Lite that comes with the IO, and it triggers just fine. The USB connection seems to work flawlessly - just remember to start the software AFTER you connect the IO. I've forgotten, and am perplexed for a few minutes before I remember to restart the BFD..
Dual triggers may be problematic, the vdrums forum had a lot to say about Roland pads. I have home-brew single inputs, and I can use a splitter and use the IO's stereo inputs. PM me if you want to chat. :)

Did you hook it up to the MIDI in on the module?
I am keeping the TD8 handy for live stuff backup. If my laptop decides to act up i cut pull the MIDI and back in business

I've used it via MIDI to a Korg Keyboard, and via USB to a MacBook Pro. The Alesis IO only has a MIDI out, the USB is dual directional.. It can receive as well as send. But the receive is limited to SysEx data:
(from the manual)
MIDI System Exclusive (SysEx) messages allow you to transfer parameter and
program data to and from the Trigger IO over the USB or MIDI connection. Using
SysEx software editors, many of which are available free over the Internet (SendSX,
MIDI-OX, SysEx Librarian), you can quickly dump and transfer preset information to
and from the Trigger IO.

I spoke to an alesis rep here in SA and it should work in conjunction with a TD8.
I am going to start calling music stores to see if there are any in stock locally. ::)

I got a good price from RMC Audio on mine, if you don't mind waiting a few days for shipping, give them a call..

Pro Bono? and you got an IO? not a bad deal! In that case, it doesn't really matter too much where it comes from.. I need to find someone to buy me toys like that!
