Okay, guess it's my turn. My name is Dave. I grew up in the Chicago suburbs, started playing trumpet around 1980 but had always wanted to play drums. Around 1986 my mom was dating a guy that was in a drum & pipe band (yes, bagpipes), and found that the lead drummer was willing to teach for free as long as players were willing to join the band when they were good enough. Thus, I began my drumming career. My first set came a year later and I played in your typical high school garage band. In 1988 I discovered Dave Weckl and jazz and it completely changed my style. I had my share of basement bands throughout college and played plenty of gigs for beer. I moved to Denver in 2000 and continued to play in the pipe band by travelling back and forth. Unfortunately I had roommates and out of common courtesy I did not set up my drums. I of course always had the nagging itch to play and discovered a site that taught the basics of how electronic drums worked, so I built my first e-set from a Remo practice pad kit with a Roland TD-7. I wasn't ever totally pleased with it, at least not enough to want to play on a consistent basis, so I've been on the constant search for a perfect electronic set...and hardly any funds with which to do it. I've gone through a Yamaha DTX 2.0 and I'm now on an expanded TD-10. I became friends with Ron (Rogue/Axe_Grinder) and have gotten the bug to play more consistently. No intentions of getting a band together or gigging...just want to get back to having fun playing the drums.
I'm pretty much a fan of jams and fusion-style jazz. Phish, Dave Matthews, Bela Fleck...that type of stuff. I've been called a music snob...mostly by my wife. But I've been called worse! :D

Hehe...I was just going through some files and found a couple photos that I forgot about.
I think I was 15 years old in the scottish drumming photo. And the second one, rockin' out on the set, I was around 21. Nice, eh? ::) :D
Ah, those were the days!

Man, You had to be a very self confident 15 year old to wear a dress (kilt) out in public. I never would have. I never even wore shorts until I was in my thirties, by then my leg were already a "Whiter shade of Pale". LOL

Very confident indeed...because you're not supposed to wear anything beneath a kilt. My mother's side of the fam is of Irish/Scots decent... my uncle (also a musician before he passed)nearly always wore a kilt when playing.
I would...but I don't want to step on myself when playing double bass. ;)
-Belated welcome...and thanks for throwing up those pics brother!

hehe...yeah, well, I've never minded showing a little skin! :o
And though the 'traditional' rule is to wear nothing, that's really uncomfortable, especially when marching. My boys need a home, know what I mean?
It's funny looking at the old picture of the set...not because of the hair, but because of what those drums eventually became:

Black wrap removed, some wood filler, some cherry stain, a bunch of polly...personally I think they ended up WAY better looking than that black. And now they've moved on to another teenage drummer to begin his career.
