Hi all.
I finally managed to figure out how to layer by velocity on the III.
So I did a small example as a experiment.
My goal was to prove that the machine gun sound of the toms could be eliminated with a few extra layers.
I'm using a user kit (default to oak custom), and all 3 layers I'm using are the "oak-10" tom voice.
I kept the original voice stock, added 2 voices changing the pitch, attack and decay of the 2 new voices.
The velocity settings overlap a little between voices.
I want to eventually make the toms on the kit sound as close to natural as possible, Bobby recorded one of his acoustic toms with various striking velocities so I have something to model from (Thank you Bobby)
Like I said, this was experiment since this is the first time I've been able to figure out how to layer by velocity on the III and it actually working.
The sounds aren't meant to sound like a perfect tom, they are meant to show the machine gunning can be dealt with and also demonstrating layering a pad by velocity.
Take a listen, let me know what you think. :)
Take care

Can't say that I know a whole lot, nor do I understand a whole lot, about the layering thing...but that sounded pretty good. It was pretty low as far as volume is concerned (had Itunes and my computer speakers turned up all the way and could just hear it)...but that has nothing to do with the drum sound...I digress.
Anyway, I particularly liked the 'pitch bend' that was clearly heard on the sustain/decay of the toms, that really added to the realistic sound. It's always hard when we know that it's an electronically generated sound and we're trying to force our brains to not think of it that way. I actually had to picture an 8" and 10" tom in my head while listening to it...but, with that picture in my head, I felt like I could get past the fact that I knew they were edrums and just listen to the sound...and the sound was pretty darned good!
Now layer that cymbal crash! ;D ;)

Edit - Nevermind the volume comment...I just checked my sound card and noticed my master volume was turned way low. DUH!!! ::)
