When I die, I truly hope that my soul does not descend to the depths of hell. I have seen Hell, and it isn't pretty.
Imagine this: you're surrounded by new drums just waiting to be played. You have all these wonderful thoughts of what you will do once they are set up. So desire begins to build. Uncontrollable desire. But you must set them up first...and in my hell, I am required to set up a Roland MDS-10 rack before I can play any of these drums. The pieces are all laid out and simple to understand. So I begin building...I get one side put together...and as soon as I begin another, things start to fall over...pieces fall out...I get hit in the head occassionally...pieces for some odd reason just don't want to fit together even though I know damn well they should, etc. And then to top it all off I finally get it all together, it's all the right hieghts that I want and then I discover that I forgot to put the mounts on...the mounts don't open up to allow me to put them on after the rack is already up, so I must take it apart...and therefore start the process all over.
Yes...that was my night last night. Thank goodness it only lasted a few hours and not eternity.

Holy crap what a pain in the ass. What genius thought up that design?! Don't get me wrong, it's nice now that it's all up and together, but I couldn't imagine having to set that thing up for gigs!

Alright...so maybe tonight I can begin to figure out how/where I'm going to mount toms & cymbals...that'll be another exercise in patience!

LMAO - I told you to leave it together.... But, nooooooooo... you wanted to put it all together yourself. That'll learn ya! - lol

and for gigging you would just fold it. Ya know, like the way I suggested getting it home - haha

Oh...so you went with the "In case I ever need to teear it down I can set it back up quick" theory too?

-I hate that rack... I still have mine...and your time in hell reminded me to put it on eBay for some other poor sucke... uh... needy drummer.

I liked the 10... if it weren't for my kit being to heavy I would still be using it. On the other hand, I have no idea how it is for gigging.... But, for us at home users........ :)

You think you guys have rack problems. Try setting up the Mondor!

You know, I've heard of the mystical Mondor, but I have yet to see it. Is Mondor like the Sasquatch of the drumming world? :D

Okay...so it's been a busy week which has taken away from my time to complete my set up...so since rising up from the depths of Hell, I have now completed the kick drum assembly & placement, as well as snare, hhat and tom placement. In the old days with my a-kit I was limited on tom placement by the height of my kick. I don't really care for toms being at a steep angle, I prefer they be closer to flat...but because of a 22" kick I would have to have my toms mounted up kind of high. Now, with the e's, I'm suddely not restricted in the same way. I got my kick, snare and hhat in the locations that are the most comfortable and natural, then started locating toms and made adjustments to the rack as necessary to allow the smoothest most natural movement from one tom to the next. When I finally got all of the toms to locations that felt the best I took a few steps away from the kit to take a look and I almost laughed...it's all incredibly short. It looks like someone took a grown up kit and set it up for a child. I think the 2 rack toms directly in front are probably around 30" off the floor and the floor tom is probably around 27"! Granted, I'm a short guy so it makes sense that my stuff won't be mounted as high as others, but it really does look kinda funny.

LOL.. you sound disappointed.. maybe the Mondor should have been kept in your imagination..
I like it.. of course I have tons of pads (tho, not that many) and I was always getting 'tude from folks asking if I needed that many. needed? Who needs that? but its COOL!

Just like in racing, stickers make you go faster.. More pads / stuff to hit makes you cooler...

Exactly - the more pads, the better the drummer. That is why Terry Bozzio is the world's best drummer and Buddy Rich sucked.
