Tested it out with Roland, Pintech, Hart, and mesh heads with Ddrum Triggers.

Pintechs and ddrum triggers worked right out of the box.
Harts the bell worked awesome, but the bow was iffy.
Rolands, ugghh, they did not like the unit at all. I tweaked them and after about an hour or so moved on. (It didnt like the CY's, the FD8, the kicks were not to my liking.)

Interface is a little tricky. I would like it to have an edit mode. On the IO you pretty much always in edit mode. I created a kit got it somewhat dialed in, and then my three year old decided he wanted to mess with the unit and well...three year olds are really cute so you cant get that mad at em.

The setup i am using now which is working so far is using my TD8 and IO together.
The TD8 for my kicks, snare, hihat controller and CY's
The IO for anything else.

Thanks for the test. I wonder what it is about Roland and the Alesis? Maybe voltage?

Could be.
According to the manual they "should" work. :-\
I would like to get my hands on another brand and HiHat controller and see how they fair.
I did pick up a KitToys trigger and would you know it...works fine with the IO.

There was a review on the vdrum forum, and a guy pretty much verbally ripped the IO apart - he was using Roland pads.. methinks something stinks w/ Roland and Alesis.. :)

I know someone who manufactures professional trigger sets and he said his pads are "too hot" for Roland Modules. He designed his to specifically to work with the Alesis IO, so my guess is that Roland Pads have a lower signal.

Sombody with a bunch of pad brands and an Multimeter should check this out.

That is a good idea.
I havent given up on the old IO yet.

Yes I remember that review. I ended up with a demo Trigger IO too. :D

It's a shame the unit does not work better with the dominant edrum pad manufacturer. If it did I don't think we could keep them in stock. Alesis if you are listening, fix it. :)

I agree they are really close to having this rule the entire universe.
(If they could clean up the interface or do an Alesis version of the MidiMapper, wow)

I'd settle for a interface to edit / save / upload kits to / from the computer. ;D
for the IO, that is.. what is midiMapper? I think I need to go look for it..
