Okay...I've got the manual in front of me and I'd swear I'm doing everything I'm supposed to do. I go into the trigger parameters/settings and adjust the sensitivity and threshold for each pad. I get 'em all to a wonderful even level and I exit out to the main screen where the name of the drum set displayed. In this case, it's the "Dave Weckl" kit from the VEx pack. I begin to play and all of the pads have gone back to the settings that they were at before. What gives? Is there something I'm supposed to do to "save" my settings?

Well, Chris and Alan over at VExpressions say that this is an indication that the TD-10's internal battery is bitin' the dust. Man, that's annoying! I finally get the damn set up and now I'm gonna be without a module for a while! GRRRRR! Fortunately it turns out that there's a Roland Service Center just a couple towns away and the guy said that's something he can do...though I have to admit I'm a little nervous about it. I'm still waiting on a response from Roland's email support as well. Edit - Just got an email back from Roland, they say the same thing, that the internal battery needs to be replaced.
Chris at VEx was really helpful...the guy that sold me the TD-10 didn't include any back-up of the VEx pack, and I will lose all of those when the battery is replaced, so Chris sent the .zip file to me. How's that for awesome?! Of course, that means I have to get my home computer up and running as well as get the Layla card installed so that I have a MIDI interface...but still, I thought that was beyond just being nice.
So the saga continues.

you have to take it to a service center for a BATTERY???
My KORG needed a new battery.. and I called a service center.. $15 for the battery, $95 in labor.
Found a how-to online. cost me $4 for TWO batteries. For when I need to replace it again in 10 friggen years... LOL!
Service centers.. grr.. what a rip..
They also wanted to charge me $215 for 7 or 8 solder shunts on my old PM-16.

Ah...just did a google search and found that this subject was brought up on Vdrums a few years back. Anyway, sounds like it's the extremely standard CR2032 battery and it's apparently super easy to install. I'm thinking I'm gonna chance it...it would really really piss me off to spend $100 for a $2 battery.

okay....well, maybe this is in the manual and I just missed it...maybe it's something I should have just assumed....but here's what's going on. The whole "not saving my settings" thing isn't exactly accurrate...at all. What happened was I was adjusting the sensitivity & threshold settings for one cymbal and then the next. But these were actually a trigger and its associated "rim"...so going through my Keith Raper circuit. Well, I wasn't noticing that one trigger would get adjusted and that was actually affecting its stereo partner. So it would appear that whatever I set for one affects the other...so I just have to deal with the fact that one of my cymbals is gonna be hotter than the other.
So there we go. It's all set up now. I'd assume that I'll get a better mix as I get more experience with the module.
