Hey everyone,
New to the forum. Just wanted to know if anyone owns or has extensively used the new dtxtreme III. I have the orig. dtxtreme and was thinking of updating it with the new module, cymbals and rack.

Welcome.
The DTX III is quite a step-up from the original DTX (I've owned one of the originals too). If you take a short trip thru this link, I'm sure you'll find some of the people that own one and perhaps some of your questions will be answered too. Good luck with the upgrade. WW

Hi Scorch and welcome to this place.
I own a DTXtreme III standard kit.
I haven't used it extensively though.
Since you have a original DTXtreme, this means you have the RHP (Real Head Pads) with the wooden shells?
As far as I know, your RHP pads should work with the III, but I would contact Yamaha to make sure, as for the new cymbals, they are quite nice and are 3 zone. You might also consider the new Yamaha hihat (RHH-135), it's a big improvement over previous Yamaha hihats.
The III has great sounds, many effects, and is loaded with features. If you want to use sampling, you'll have to get 2 x pc100 or pc133 256meg DIMMs, you need a matched non ecc set, this will give you half a gig of sampling space. You'll also need a compatible USB memory stick to load or save stuff to the module. All in all, I think the III is the most advanced drum module on the market today, great sounds, tons of features and looks pretty decent as well.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
Take care

This was posted at the v-site. The link is below.
Just so you know, according to Yamaha's Jim Haler the DTXtreme III will work with the original DTXtreme triggers (i.e, real wood/head drums).
