Hi all.
I've totally torn apart my Project WTF-2 kit and since I have 2 weeks holidays coming up on the 5th I will be building a more reasonable kit, not as big, but more fun to play.
I am going to be building this new kit on my existing Project WTF rack since the DTXtreme III Standard rack is too small and I already love the layout of the bigger rack for the placement of the modules and pads.
Time will tell how this thing turns out. :)
I am attaching a picture file with multiple pictures of what's left of Project WTF-2.
Take care

Big kits are soooooo 80's! I have scaled down on mine as well, and when I start new e-drums, I will have less.. I am thinking 2 snares, 4 toms, 2 bass.. That's it.. oh, and cymbals / effects pads like dingbats or similar..
Maybe that is kinda big.. :p

Good thing I'm downsizing.
Here's what I have done so far.
The pad placement is pretty much done other than fine tuning when the kit is completed.
Pardon the dusty state the kit is in on the attached picture, it will be spotless when done.
I started out with placing the main kit, snare, kick, HH, 5 toms (3 on the front tube) and 2 floor toms and a ride cymbal, I connected these to my DTXtreme III module and played for a bit, if felt good and comfortable. Then the bug hit me, I started adding stuff while keeping the rest in place and making sure not to interfere with the main kit. Then I connected the DTXpress IV and connected one tom pad and one crash cymbal to it and tested a theory of mine regarding plugging the DTXpress IV into the DTXtreme III. This will be fully tested when the kit is completed and wired, stay tuned, so far the results are quite impressive, I'll let you all know when it is confirmed.
Hopfully I should have the kit done in another couple of days.
Enjoy the pictures.
Take care

I'm glad you went back to your roots. :)

Thanks Ron.
Well, in a way I did scale down, I put two kits into one, so only one room for drums again now! LOL :D
Time will tell how long I keep this monstrosity for this time before I get the urge to scale down again! sheeeesh!. LOL :D
I don't know why, I just kept adding pads, oh yeah, I do know why, I'll share that at a later time when I've had time to verify a theory of mine! :)
Take care

Scaling back can never be an option, but smaller triggers and pads can always be an option.
Hey Jack, I like the new setup alot. I can honestly say that my latest setup was influenced by you, Alvis and Wes. I always look forward to new setups by you guys. I feel like we were just treated to a new one by Wes and Alvis and Now you are redoing yours. Hot, I cant wait to see it finished. T

Looking good Jack. I can`t wait to hear what the secret is. I used the same theory when I built mine. Build The basic kit you like best and then expand arround that. Then all the preset kits will still be playable. That and " Let no input go to waste ". haha. BTW, several days ago I decided to join the dual module club. Added the IIs to my setup. I only run the PCY-10 ( I have a fully funtioning HH bell now) and the dingbat ( access to all those great IIs percussion voices) through it right now. I hope I stop there but I probably won`t. haha

Hi Alvis.
Great minds think alike.
I just got a PCY-10 also (upcoming message on that) and I have it mounted on my RHH-135 just like you and when I finish putting the kit together, I will be using the HH bell through the 2nd module (DTXpress IV)'s hihat input and use my HH-65 HH controller pedal to run it. :)
I decided to go with the IV instead of the IIs due to finding the sounds cleaner and more refined, some of the sounds are so close to those of the Xtreme III that no one will care! :)
Also, I made my wiring diagram earlier, I had a sigh of relief, I thought I'd run out of ports but low and behold, every port of both module will be used, the kit fits perfectly between the DTXtreme III and Xpress IV! YAY!!!!! LOL :)
So from the sounds of it, you caught that "wanna build a big kit" bug uh? LOL :D
Enjoy!

Here's an update on my kit! :)

Tonight, I will start the very tedious task of wire labeling and then wiring the kit, this part of the build is no fun and a pain in the (insert explative here) not to mention body pains, in all shapes and sizes! LOL :D

Hi all.
Well, it's done! :)
I'll let the picture speak for itself.
http://members.shaw.ca/chewtoy/downsize3.jpg
I already have a Oak Custum kits setup between the two modules and have started some preliminary testing on that thing I've been talking about for those with a DTXtreme III module and a 2nd module, so far it seems to be working, I'll let you in on it once I have time to do more testing and write a tutorial! :)
Now it's just a matter of learning the placement of the pads all over again! LOL :)
Take care

Alvis, very observant of you! :)
Yeah, no mixer, that's part of it, but I've daisy chained 2 modules like this before.
Here's a hint, think of it as something for nothing! :)
I was really intending on downsizing, when I realized this mystery theory, I knew I didn't have to downsize! :)
I'll hopefully have the tutorial done by morning then you'll know! :)
Take care.
