I updated the firmware on my DTXtreme 3's today, I did a quick tutorial video to help others that might have some issues. I doubt that anyone would but you never know. Thanks to Jim Haler from Yamaha on emailing the update to us. Tom

Nice Tom. I watched your video and followed the written instructions with no problems updating the firmware. Can't really tell any difference, but then I don't do any midi :-0

Hi Wes, I think the update is most valuable for stacking user voices and the after touch in midi. I updated both of my modules but have not got into the functionality of the new update yet. I have a midi recording session I am loaning my kit out for and I will do some test recording and video testing out the new functions.
Some time this week I will stack 16 user voices per pad from some samples I purchased online and test it out again. The only thing that I will do will be to overlap some of the velocity ranges on the user voices to create a thicker voice and to cross sample across the range of velocity. My only worry is how many before I run into danger with polyphony.
The bottom line is now we can test drive the module and have a clearer picture as to where it sits in the food chain. I am optimistic about what it has to offer from a personal standpoint. It has allready my triggering expectations. I would have liked to see a RHP Piezo/piezo setting but it wasnt a deal breaker. The next few weeks should be alot of fun. T

I don't understand this thread. How does this make my Roland module work any better?

Forget the new Yamaha firmware update, I'm still working on getting the Vex kits to work with my DTX III module? What's up with that?

I'm with you dschrammie, I installed the new firmware onto my Yamaha DTXtreme IIs, and now it doesn't work..... are there any patches or steps I missed..... Is this a bug they failed to fix ??? :)

In all seriousness, what did this firmware update do for you Tom? What are your conclusions now?

Hi David, The firmware update now allows multi velocity samples to be stacked and played properly. It has also fixed other issues but this was the main problem that I encountered with the module.
On the down side, I was hoping for another pad setting that would open up the possibility of using piezo/piezo pads without an internal KRC. This did not happen this go around and I will keep adding the KRC to my DIY pads. Although I do get a distinct crosstick sound with Pintech trigger bars which I think is due in part to the position of the rim piezo.
Overall I love the module and the new cymbals. I am hoping to demo my new kit here when I am finished with it. I am 99.9 percent finished and cant wait to show it off. Tom
