I have been hard at work trying to finish a few snare drums so I can begin my push to sample everything coming out of the shop. As you can see from the photos, a few of the drums have been around in shell form for a while and are just now being finished. I will get better pictures up soon and hopefuly some video and samples also.
I did want to highlight the wrapped snare, this drum is an idea I have been toying with for quite some time now. I wanted to produce a snare drum that I might have done 40 years ago if I was making drums in that era. So every so often you will see something that is different and interesting and definitely out of character for me. We have a new badge coming also, I am putting the finishing touches on now to complete all of these. Tom :)

Thank You drum4ever, I will make sure everyone here gets a video with good quality sound.

Thanks Bobby, It was something I wanted to try, I found out that something similar has been done before but this is my take on it.
Give me the old school throw back. Nice
Thanks Fig, as a rule I dont do wrapped acoustic drums, but I have been waiting for these mahogany shells without rings and I wanted to have my own take on it. When I started them I imagined what would I do if it was the 1960's and how would I approach the materials that were similar. This as close as I will ever come.
I will always try to show whatever I am working on here first. I am sure there will be more stuff coming very soon, wink wink,Tom

Nice bit of work Tom.
All look great but as mentioned, the bottom one is super sweet.
As for wooden rim on a snare, Akira Jimbo uses a wooden rim.
Take care

Thanks Jack, I absolutely love Mahogany shells, I have been looking for the perfect mahogany shell to do my next acoustic kit in. Nothing quite like it.

Nice looking work there Tom ,
I outfitted my Premier kit in 2004 with Yamaha's 19 ply " vintage series " maple wooden hoops and man did it really make them sound crisp and lively . The shells were birch on the Premier kit so they allready had some nice tones to them but the wooden hoops really added some more nice flavor to them . I first heard them on a custom snare that was built for me when I was touring still , and immediately fell in love with the level of dynamics it brought to the snare .
I have had a few drummers ask me about wooden hoops on drums after seeing that I used them at that time and a few switched over to a wooden hooped snare and are still using them . They are actually quite durable hoops and are great for cross stick work as well .
Again very nice work there Tom ,
