Thought I would post a picture of my snare (and also try inserting a pic in the post). Some details on snare are as follows:

Solid Walnut shell with maple rings top and bottom - 6.5X14
Single flanged hoops with claws - I've always liked the look of these hoops
Trick three way adjustable strainer - awesome strainer
Black anodized tube lugs
German snare wires
Evans heads - i switched from the standard remos heads

I've owned many snares, but this is the one I kept. I had Matt and Neil build this snare up custom for me. Great folks and an amazing sounding drum!

Hi Why-Man.
That is a beautiful snare drum.
What does something like that cost to get custom made?
I don't blame you for wanting to keep it, it is quite pleasing to the eye. :)
Take care

Very Nice Looking drum, do you have anything recorded with it, I am sure everyone would love to hear what it sounds like. Thanks for posting that, I love seeing whats out on the market acoustic and electronic, Tom :)

I do have a recording that Matt and Neil sent me of one of their walnut snares, although it is not this specific drum. I plan on buying a portable recorder here real soon, once I get done buying a new module for the rolahama (gonna get an xtreme III mod.). I'll see if I can't find the walnut snare recording I've got.

Here is picture taken from the bottom of drum. You can see the maple rings. One thing worth mentioning about longo drums and their build process. Before building a given drum they will dry the wood used for 5 years....it's supposed to help the stabilize the shell. Also, I don't know if I was clear on one other fact...this is a steam bent one ply walnut shell with one ply maple rings.

Here is a recording of a longo walnut snare drum that Matt sent me a while back. It's a good representation of what a walnut longo snare sounds like. Please disregard the language at the end of recording (guy using some profanity). Matt had some reservations about sending it to me cause of this and apologized about it to me (BTW... it''s not anyone from the longo family, but a friend testing out the drum). Enjoy.

Just listened to the recording.
The whole kit sounds pretty sweet but that snare can sure cut through everything and be heard, sounds great! :)
Take care

(gasp) I am totally offened by that language. My poor virgin ears :D In the words of a New Yorker, "goi-jous" snare :) I love black walnut.

Thought I would post a couple more pics of my pride and joy!!...my snare that is!...I can't say enough good things about this snare and its' builders, Matt and Neil Longo....good folks that stand behind their product..as an example of that statement...I bought this drum a year ago and who do you think I heard from just two days ago...Matt Longo..just checking to see how I and the family were doing....to me that's a class act!...good people!...almost forgot to mention..one of their walnut snare drums won a contest held by "Not So Modern Drummer" for best sounding solid shell drum recently!

anyway here's some pics...enjoy!
