I've been pretty occupied lately with the cat tree build my wife and I built for our kitties , but I got to spend some time over the weekend getting the newest additions to my drum rack built up so here's a few pics . Here's what the rack looked like before expanding it , and also some more parts along with the 2nd. rack I bought for the add on .

My rack layout before the add ons :

Additional parts I added to the rack
( A.K.A. the WildWes inspired rack parts pile ):

Some of the pics below show this new rack set up with my ddrum4 kit pads , I will be adding pics of my Blastech kit on this rack shortly now that the rack is built up . Couldn't bring myself to risk scratching that Blastech kit up with moving the hardware around during the rack building process . I definately got to add a 3rd. riding tom to the Blastech kit I'm loving the tom layout on this set up . Tomorrow starts the task of re-running all the cables after work .

Here's the new layout :

Hi Sam.
Excellent layout, building a rack like this can be a lot of fun, figuring out how to place everything so everything fits where you want it can be quite a challenge! LOL :)
Looks like you did a pretty good job with everything being laid out and functional.
Now's the not so fun part, running the cables, making them look neat and hoping you don't run out of long cables to get to the far end! :)
The other headache will be to see if your getting any crosstalk and if so hopefully be able to get rid of it with minimal rejection settings or tweaks.
Looks pretty good Sam, Way to go! :)
Take care

Nice Job Sam, The new rack looks great. I guess you went totally for DDrum. We need a video of the kit, What happened to the pads you got from Billy Blast?

Anyway, the kit loos awesome and thanks for sharing the setup with us. I am adding rep to your post. :)

Wow!, The looks great. Its like building a large Erector set.:) Do you gig out with that? It seem it would take forever to set up and break down.

Thanks Jack ,

Yeah I'm really happy with the way it turned out and I kind of just did some playing around with things before I totally dove in and started putting things together . I liked a bit of things on the older layout so I didn't want to totally change that but more just enhance it and spread things out a little more . Yep I'm starting to run cables tonight and I'm gonna build my own custom cable harness that will keep the network of cables looking a little less messy . That's the thing I like about the ddrum modules is that I have a bit of settings that I can adjust easily to tweak things to deal with the crosstalk . By the way I did fill all the rack tubes with the foam style packing peanuts and I'm thinking that will help with minimizing vibrations a bit . I didn't really have to many problems before with it . I'm not sure if it being all steel rack tubing has anything to do with that or not . They're all rack tubes from ddrum4 kits and I believe that Gibraltar may have built their racks for them back then ( not positive about that but I did hear that from a few people )

Thanks Tom ,

No I still play my Blastech kit , I love that kit way to much to change that out . I had gotten all those ddrum cast precision drum pads when I bought my ddrum3 module with some more ddrum cymbal pads and I figured I'd see what a 3 up / 2 down tom configuration would work like with the rack and the space I have in the room for it . I actually bought a complete ddrum kit off of the guy and the ddrum3 module . Basically everything but the drum rack . Now I know I really want to add an additional mounted tom to my Blastech set to match the rest .

Plus the metal shells on these ddrum pads are a little harder to damage while postioning things around than my Blastech drums being that they're maple shells . I didn't want to take the chance of banging the shells up on that kit . Now that I got things pretty much arranged where I want them I'll be mounting the Blastech kit back up on its new home :) ( with hopefully a few additions to be added soon . ) . Yep I definately want to put together some videos of the layout and jamming on some stuff . I have a funk/fusion jam project that is coming up in the late summer or fall this year and I'll be using the Blastech kit on that too .

Yeah my cats are kind of on a toss up of whether they like their new cat tree/house or my new rack layout more .

I have done some jams and studio session stuff with a little over half of this kit . This set-up is more for ideas and creating stuff at home than to transport around much . I'd actually love to get the whole thing set up on a stage at least once and just rip loose on it though :D . I've gotten pretty good on set up and tear down of drum racks over the years so I kind of put together my own routine on doing it . My older layout before the rack upgrade could be tore down , packed up in cases and ready to go in about 15 minutes .
