Hi all.
I've been banging my head up against the wall for a while now (anyone got Motrin?) regarding the preset songs built into the DTXtreme III module, the problem is, some of these songs play various percussion sounds which are set to the 4 extra inputs of that module.
The problem started when I filled those extra inputs with 3 zone pads and set cymbal sounds to those 3 zone pads. The internal songs started playing cymbal sounds instead of the percussions they were intended to play thus totally ruining the song.
If the song only uses one percussion sound (there are a few songs like this that only use the Tambourine at note F#2) then I just remap that note to rim2 of one of my high toms.
But some songs have many percussion sounds so the best thing to do is just turn off the percussion sounds altogether, Alvis came up with a way to do this by changing some of the settings in the midi parts of the song. But we discovered that these changes were lost at power off. So I started messing around and came up with a work around for this.
Here are the instructions on how to do this.
Parts needed: a USB memory stick formatted on the DTXtreme III, leave USB stick inserted into the module for this tutorial.

I'll be using Pre43 J-Fusion for the example since there are many percussion sounds in this song.

1) Press the 'Song' button and use the jog dial to go to song name "USR:1"
2) Press the 'Job' button.
3) Make sure "01:copy song" is highlighted and press the 'enter/store' button.
4) Use the jog wheel to go to "Pre:43 J-Fusion" and press the 'enter/store' button then press 'yes'.
5) Now, you should be on song "USR:01" and the song should have been copied to this user song and named "J-Fusion". Now press the 'Voice' button onscreen (while still in song job mode), use your arrow keys and scroll over to track number "11", at the 'transmit' setting, change it from "pc" to "all", now use the 'down arrow' and scroll to the 2nd screen, highlight 'Bank MSB' and change the setting of "125" to "124".
6) Now try listening to the song. The percussion sounds should be gone.
If you were to turn off the module at this point, the changes would be gone since user songs do not stay in memory at power off. So now we have to save this song to a external device so we can load it into the module at power up with the new settings intact for that user song.
7) Insert a USB memory stick already formatted on the module (if not already inserted).
Press the 'File' button, change the "Alldata" (using the jog wheel) to "AllSong", scroll down to the blank file name and give it a name, let's say "J'Fusion", now highlight the "AutoLoad" folder in the right hand side of the screen and press 'enter/store', this will bring you into that folder which should be empty unless you have other songs you put there. Now press 'Exec' to save the song. On the right hand side of the screen, it should now show your newly saved song "J'FUSION.T3S".
(Note: You can also save the song in the first folder (not autoload) but this means you'll have to manually load the song each time you turn on the module)
8) Press the 'Utility' button, Press the 'Other' button, set "Autoload" to on, save your new settings with 'enter/store'. Your done.
(Note: no need to set autoload to on in the utility menu if you put the file in other than the autoload folder on the USB stick or if you'd rather load it manually, in this case, leave autoload to off in the utility menu)

Now turn off the module

Wait a few seconds and turn it back on.

The new song will load at the module's startup and the song will be back at song USR:01 J'Fusion and the percussion sounds will not play as before! :-)
If you didn't put the song in the autoload folder and/or left autoload to off in the utility menu, press the 'File' button, go to "AllSongs", "J'Fusion" should appear in the right window, highlight it and make sure "Load" is chosen then press the 'Exec" button, the song should now be in "USR:01" and ready to play.
Take care

PS: Special thanks go to Alvis for thinking of the mods to channel 11 to turn off the percussion voices, this was the basis of this experimentation! :)

Great tutorial, Jack. You always write the best tutorials. The user song route is the way to go imo. It won`t be long and you will be recording with that user song like I do. hahaha. Oh it`s so much fun. Again, great tutorial. Alvis :)

Thanks Alvis. :)
Unfortunately, that J-Fusion song is far from being something I'll be any good to play along too, I've tried and a few parts of it have me stumped big time.
I feel like a lost puppy trying to play to that one, I'll keep trying though! :)
The one I've been enjoying lately is PowerBld (Pre35), don't know what it is about that one, but it's one of the few module song that inspires playing with feeling for me! :)
Take care
