Yamaha is releasing info on the new DTX-MULTI 12 multi-pad unit. Looks great to me. Some of us had a clue this was coming but they developed it faster than I thought they would. I don't NEED one but I seem to WANT one.

Looks like a nice competitor for the Roland model. The roland one still has better looks though.

Other than the looks, what do you think of the features compared to the SPD20? I am interested in what folks that are familiar with the SPD20 thinks. Thanks, Tom

I am definitely getting one.

I have a Spd-s I'd gladly trade for that. I was worried about the front bar trigger but that wouldn't be any different than a rim of a drum. The Spd-s is neat for sampling but there isn't enough memory to do much.

This looks cool, does anyone know how much the MSRP will be?

I have not been able to find any info on when or how much yet. I'm still not totally happy with the fact that the DTXtremeIII standard is selling for half the price I paid for it 18 just months ago. So if I decide I want one I might just wait until this time next year and pick one up at half the price whatever it is. Or, Maybe WildWes will buy one not like it and sell it to me at a discount. haha. Just kidding Wes, Alvis :)

Please don't shot me now (shot'em now! shot'em now!) but, if you really want to know, you could go over to the Vplace.:D

I don't own the Roland product, but from what I read, it is more like a SPD-20 with some sampling. SPD-S (from the best I can tell) doesn't have but 131 built in sounds (samples). As far as polyphony goes, the SPD-s only has 8 voice and the SPD-20 is (I think) 16 voice. This one by Yamaha has 64 notes. What is the difference between "voice" and "notes"? I think the DTX-multi 12 is more of a cross between the Roland SPD-20 and SPD-S. I like how it can be used as a mini-edrum kit by using all the extra trigger ports. Something tells me that the yamaha is going to be a better bang for the buck. Just a hunch however.;)

Yeah this is what made me interested in it as well.
Seems like there's a 3-zone input and then 2 splittable inputs on it which
should be enough to connect a snare, a kick, a hi-hat pad and maybe a ride
or something along these lines.

Not to worry AW. I appear to be happy with my current set-up, but it does suck to see how quickly the bottom fell out of the DTXtreme III line-up. Hope Yamaha is coming out with something neat to replace it. WW

I think I saw someplace that it will sell for $699.00 US.
As for the DTXtreme III kits, my guess is they are trying to get rid of existing stock for something new and upcoming, I can't see it being a new module, the III is too new and they have to make money from it, but my guess is they will be repackaging everything with new drum pads. All the Yamaha pads have been replaced with the introduction of the DTXtreme III except for the drum pads (TP-120sd and TP-100), these are long overdue for replacement with something new and improved. Logic dictates, new pads are coming at winter NAMM, Yamaha might be trying to ditch the old stock to make room for the new and then prices will be back up.
I don't have insider info, I'm just speculating but this would be logical (the Spock in me speaking! :D ) of Yamaha if they plan to have new pads with the DTXtreme Special and Standard kits in the new year.
Take care

Yea I defintely believe that is what's happening!...Yamaha does this when they are getting ready to introduce a new model...they did it with the DTXtreme I RHP kit also (not sure on the IIS, as I wasn't watching that kit at the time)....the RHP kit got as low as $1899 (orig. MSRP $4800) at Musician's Friend right before the introduction of the IIs...:)...also on the new DTXperience site (in the "NEWS" area) the new guy (Bob Terry) introduces himself and has this to say:

"The DTX-MULTI 12 is the first of several new offerings that will be coming from DTX Drums by Yamaha over the next few months. So stay tuned to DTXPERIENCE.com for details of future products that you’re going to want to know about."

So I think we will be seeing some new stuff here soon..:)
