Is this new or has it been out for while and I just never heard about it ? The price is right but I would prefer the Yamaha Multi 12 If I needed a multi pad unit.

Alvis, Great find on this one, interesting to see what it sounds like, might be a nice alternative to the mainstream offerings but probably only if the sounds are good. It reminds you of the old Simmons stuff though with the shape of the pads. It is very cool that there is another Multi Pad on the market. :)

Interesting, not that I'm in the market for one of these multipad thingies, but what caught my eye was the USB connection, inputs for external pads and 64 voice Polyphony, not bad for that price. As Tom mentioned, if it sounds good, then I can see this thing giving the new Yamaha Multi-12 a run for it's money.
Take care

Sure seems like a lot of bang for the buck... I like the Yamaha unit as well but that is twice the cost...

Alvis, great find. How in the heck did I miss this one. This is a new offering from Simmons. It looks to me like Simmons is serious about being in the game on some level. What caught my eye was this feature:

Pedals: 2 velocity-sensitive pedals (1 hi-hat and 1 general)

I wonder what they mean by velocity-sensitive pedals?

LOL. Scott ! EDF is the place for all new thingie-ma-jigs for sure. Thanks guys for letting me know it is new. I thought I was out of the loop for a few hours and I can't let that happen. hahaha. I just stumbled on it looking around the online stores. I thought Phil would tell me it had been out for quite a while already. Phil, I guess they sent it to stores without any pre release promo at all. I can see where that would save some money since advertising can get expensive but how can you sell it if nobody knows about it. Good to see new things in the edrum market from all makers.

The one thing that strikes me (no pun intended) about the Simmons pad is the pad layout. You can sit down at a Roland SPD-* or the new Yamaha and be able to play without paying attention to pad placement, not so with the Simmons.

I know the Drumkats had/have the same thing, but even their layout seems more intuitive to me.

Any updates on this Simmons SDMP1? I didn't see a detailed instruction manual for assigning program numbers to the pads and all things MIDI; the only thing in the box was a brief set-up manual. Has anyone played it yet?
