Hey,
Well, Im a 42yo male from Sweden (Dang, that sounds like a contact ad lol) anyways, Played acoustic drums for a long time in my youth and decided to start playing again.
Well, with age comes lazyness, and im to lazy to go somewhere else to play, like arehearsal studio or something, and got the idea to try electronic drums.
Back then they kind of sucked but its totally different now.
Im here to get some input and share ideas with people that loves drumming just like me ;-)
Im in the process right now to buy a kit,
Well, I guess thats all for now ;-)
Cheers,

Hey, Thanks for the welcome.
Well, I was set on buying the Roland TD-20KX but im not sure now, Ive been trying to find out how much you can expand the kits and noone seems to know ;-/ I want to be able to add on some more cymbals and maybe in the future some extra pads.
Ive also been looking a bit on the yamaha DTXtreme III and they look nice but i have to try them out first, thats my next step. It would save me some money, thats for sure.
So, right now, I dont know :-)

Welcome to the forum by_tor. Good rule of thumb, always try before you buy when it come to edrums.:) Either kit I'm sure would work great for you.

Hi By_Tor and welcome to this place.
As for eDrum shopping, do your research first. Maybe download the manuals for the kits you are interested in, module manuals are normally available in PDF format.
Make a list of what features you want or need in a eDrum kit and then see which kits have those features. As mentioned by HellFire, if you can, go to a music store and try out both the Roland and Yamaha kits you are interested in, they have some similarities in some features but they sound and feel very different. Roland uses mesh head drums which are only capable of 2 zones (main pad and rim) where as the Yamaha drum pads uses rubber pads and have 3 zones (main pad and 2 rims (rim is split about 70/30%)). The argument between mesh and rubber and which one is better has been going on forever, none are better than the other, it's what feels right for you. Mesh is pleasant to play on depending on the brand of mesh head, the Roland heads are probably the best in the business, but some people find mesh is too bouncy, rubber on the other hand is harder and many say feel closer to acoustic Mylar heads, I find the rubber heads are also more responsive. It's all a matter of personal preferences so make sure you try both the Roland kits with Mesh heads and the Yamaha DTXtreme III with rubber pads. Don't let sales people sway you one way or another, especially if they are trying to sway you towards the Roland kits at all cost, the reason being, the Roland kits are much more expensive thus a higher commission for the sales people. If a store sells both Yamaha and Roland and the sales person is really interested in what you want, he'll be happy to sell you either a Roland or Yamaha kit. Buyer beware! LOL :D
Personally I think the Yamaha DTXtreme III is more advanced and it's feature set way better than that of the TD-20 or TD-20sx module. The technology of the DTXtreme III is a lot newer also. I'm not a Yamaha salesman, just pointing out stuff you might want to look into when doing your research! :)
Good luck with finding the kit that's right for you.
Take care

Thanks for the warm welcome. Im happy i found this place :-)
And thank you for the good advice. I will go and try the yamaha and see how they feel and i will probably have some more Q´s after that.
Ive always had problems playing on the pads, thats why i have been so in to the V-drums since they have the mesh. But i think its only a matter of what your use to, And since i havent played in years maybe its time to "learn" another way ?
Hmmm,

That is why it's important to try both kits out, try doing intricate stick work on all pads, light sticking and heavier sticking, see what the pads feel like under all circumstances.
The rest is pretty much about the quality of the sounds from each module, it's features and ease of use can also play a part in the decision making.
If for some reason the kit feels really strange (something not right) ask the sales people to do a factory reset on the module, chances are some previous test driver messes with the controls and threw the module all out of whack.
Take care

Both are really awesome kits, but I definitely prefer the Yamaha. Much better sounds, love the dials on the pads, easier to use and figure out and use.

Did you ever see the cartoon that plays behind Rush during By Tor and the Snow Dog? Very cool cartoon.
Welcome to EDF, I have it on good authority that the founder of EDF is a huge Rush fan. I think its his favorite band and N.P. is his favorite drummer so I am sure you will get along well.
I am enjoying my Xtreme 3 and my 2s very much and currently waiting until the end of January to see if Yamaha comes out with a new pad. I currently use mesh with my DTXtreme module but have been wavering as of late about going back to rubber (I prefer the feel) and waiting to see whats next. Now there are so many options for e drums that you can mix and match and come out ahead if you plan and shop correctly. So whatever you decide I am sure you will be happy. Tom

Glad you made it here.... Should be able to find the answers you need to make your kit choice.... The Yamaha DTXtreme III if far superior to the Roland TD20 even if you add mesh pads to it !!! IMO...

Yeah the cartoon is a little funny. I hope they play the whole thing in it's entirety next tour. I hate it when they cut out the end.
