Wow! I did it! I just assembled my kit last night, stopped by skips after work and picked up Midisport uno, downloaded the latest syx file from Alesis and uploaded into my new DM5. And it worked! Thank God! The samples that originally came loaded SUCKED! The new ones are pretty darn good. :) (Much better place for me to edit from.)

I searched around the net and didn't find any real instructions on how to do this, so for the benefit of the members, here's what I did:

1)Install Midisport uno (or whichever version you use) software.
2)plug in the hardware... MIDI out/in and USB to PC.
3)Midisport's software then needed to install another driver.
4)downloaded and unziped the syx file from Alesis for the DM5.
5)downloaded and installed MidiOx software.
6)opened the MidiOx program and under options, clicked Midi devices.
7) clicked on the Midisport for IN and again for Out to assign.
8)Checked Pass SysEx under options
9)then View SysEx...
10) then in the SysEx window, under Command Window, I loaded the syx file from Alesis. then I hit Send Syx.
The DM5 was turned on somewhere in there.

I then wasn't sure what to do next, after the confirmation screen. But I went to my kit and noticed 00-20 were all re-named. It worked! But, as soon as I hit a trigger, it went nuts. I figured out that I need to unplug the midi jacks. Once that was done, all the new samples/kits were ready to go!!!

Anyways.... for you other "Newbies" like me, you may find this useful.

Rock on!!!

Hi! Fellow DM5Pro owner and edrum noob here.:D Yeah, I've also found the SYSEX tweaked settings to be a godsend, but have been refining my trigger sensitivity (and crosstalk/decay/noise) settings for about a week, now; just starting to get 'em whipped into a semblance of shape. I have the surge cymbals, which seem to be a lot less sensitive than they ought, IMO. I still can't get the module to reliably differentiate the dual ride triggers-are they supposed to be bow/edge or bow/bell? I've been triggering Addictive Drums with my set; other than the difficulties I've mentioned here and in other threads, the combination works really well and sounds miles better than the internal sounds. I just wish I could use more of the cool AD articulations with the few pads I was fortunate to purchase. (for instance, I'd like to be able to layer a bell ping at velocity 127 on the ride bow and use the other trigger for an edge hit; that kinda thing. Don't know if AD can handle that, or whether I'd have to use Kontakt-I know gigastudio could do it, but I don't want to fool around with ReWire, latency's bad enough as is)

LOL... I have NO idea. :)
I didn't have Surge cym's. I had trouble with the dual snare. I used teh 2nd trigger as a temporary ride and it would often trigger the snare. I never seemed to get xtalk right on this drum.
Further, I've since returned the DM5 kit. I didn't like the module's sounds, and moreover, no variable hi-hat was killing me. So, back to the store it went.

My next purchase will be the DM10.
